How to Make Jalapeno Poppers for Your Next Party - It's Easy!

It's time for the Superbowl again and I'd like to share one of my favorite Superbowl snacks, jalapeno poppers. Actually this comes up because my middle son. He's a senior in high school, he's been getting the guys in his social circle to learn 'manly things' lately. This past weekend he invited these guys to our house to grill steaks. While they were here I decided to introduce them to real man's food, and while I was at it, I took some pictures.

One reason this is 'man's food' is because it's easy enough for anyone to make, even those who have never spent time cooking. I like to grill, but off the grill I call myself a Charlie Brown chef. You know, I can make toast and popcorn, but that's about it! I've been making jalapeno poppers for years, most of our friends expect them when they come over to our house for a party. Jean likes them, because they are something I can make without her. And while I often make more than I think we'll possibly be able to eat, we've never had any left over at the end of a party. I mean, come on, jalapeno's, cream cheese and bacon, quite possibly the 3 most perfect ingredients in the World!

1. Start with whole jalapenos.
Cut them in half and remove the seeds.

2. Add Cream Cheese.
Level the jalapeno halves with cream cheese. Sometimes I put a slice of habanero under the cream cheese, or mix in some cayenne pepper in to give it a longer-lasting burn.

3. Top with thin microwave bacon.
I use microwave bacon because it's already cooked and only needs to be re-heated. I also trim the bacon with chef's scissors (I swear they are not ordinary scissors!) so the bacon doesn't hang out over the edge of the jalapeno.

Heat at around 250 - 300 degrees until the bacon starts to get crispy or the cream cheese starts to melt, or just put them on the back of the grill while your other food cooks.

Warning, be sure to wash your hands frequently when handling jalapenos, and don't touch your eyes or other sensitive parts of your body until you are sure your hands are free from jalapeno juice!

These really are not just for men, women love them too. At about 55 calories each, they'll fit into almost any diet.

If you're in the Houston area this upcoming Superbowl weekend, come on over!

Before I became a vegetarian, I absolutely LOVED these things! And I had a blast making them. Me and my Mom would both make them together.

I still eat them. I cut the top off, use a spoon to scoop the insides out, stuff cheese inside, then wrap what I affectionately refer to as "facon" (bacon imitation) around the entire Jalapeno. It's my 100% all time favorite snack.

FANTASTIC ARTICLE! Everyone should eat these things, I'm not kidding. They're amazing.

Ha! I've never heard of 'facon', in fact my family often repeats the line from the commercial, "There's only one thing that smells like bacon and that's.... BACON!"  For the most part, we've given up eating bacon now.  Maybe we should try facon.

It really is amazing how popular this snack is. Sometimes Jean will work all afternoon on cooking something for a party and then my poppers get more compliments than her food. Just doesn't seem fair!

I love these things! I wrap bacon around them before placing them on the grill..The smoke takes the heat out of them- I could eat the whole platter- so everybody runs over--"Hurry- mama's at the peppers!"

Ohhhh, my Texan would love them and I might too if they were MILD peppers (Minnesota here) Thanks for this recipe! I bet you could use no fat cream cheese too and then it would almost be a vegetable (well, there is the matter of the bacon....) Super Bowl only comes once a year, right?
